5 coaches who could join Mark Gottfried on the hot seat

Mark Gottfried is reportedly on the hot seat at NC State, but he's not the only bench boss fighting for his job as the regular season winds down.

The coaching carousel is getting ready to turn, and these five coaches could soon be looking for work:

Johnny Jones, LSU

No one expected LSU to improve after losing Ben Simmons, but the Tigers have looked utterly incompetent in 2016-17. After blowing a double-digit lead to Ole Miss on Tuesday, Johnny Jones heads down the stretch of the schedule with just one win in the downtrodden SEC, and is set to post his worst record in five years with the Tigers. He has only one NCAA tournament appearance at LSU.

Thad Matta, Ohio State

It's been a nice 13-year run for Thad Matta at Ohio State, but a steady decline over the last several seasons could put the veteran leader in harm's way this offseason. Set to fall short of double-digit wins in the Big Ten for the first time since 2004-05, the Buckeyes' glory days of deep NCAA tournament runs under Matta seem long gone.

Tom Crean, Indiana

Indiana fans have been calling for Tom Crean's head since the day he landed in Bloomington, but this may be the year they finally get their wish. Though injuries have been a factor, the Hoosiers have failed to play up to their talent level this season, which Crean's critics say has been a constant theme throughout his tenure.

John Thompson III, Georgetown

It's been 10 years since Georgetown last appeared in a Sweet Sixteen, and that drought isn't going to end this season. The Hoyas sit in ninth place out of 10 teams in the Big East as the once-storied program continues to wither. Georgetown has been a John Thompson program for decades, but it may be time to cut ties with JT3 before the damage becomes irreparable.

Lorenzo Romar, Washington

Another star-studded recruiting class for Washington in 2017 means Lorenzo Romar is probably safe, but has any other employed coach in the nation so consistently done less with more? Since 2011-12, Romar has produced more NBA first-round picks (five) than NCAA tournament appearances (zero). Markelle Fultz is set to make that six and zero in the very near future.
