If Mark Gottfried isn't careful, he may find himself out of a job before the end of the season.

According to a report from Jeff Goodman of ESPN, citing sources, Gottfried's tenure as head coach of NC State could come to an end following this season unless his team can pull off an impressive stretch leading into the ACC Tournament.

One source even went so far as to tell Goodman on Tuesday night that Gottfried "could be gone this week, if they get pounded by North Carolina tomorrow night."

Goodman also reports that NC State athletic director Debbie Yow is unhappy with the team's lack of effort, according to multiple sources.

NC State spokesman Fred Demarest has assured ESPN that the focus for the team lies solely on North Carolina, as well as denying the rumor that the school has contacted candidates to replace Gottfried. NC State currently has a record of 14-12, with a woeful record of 3-10 in conference play.

Since taking over the team for the 2011-12 season, Gottfried has led the Wolfpack to a record of 122-81, along with two appearances in the Sweet 16.
