NCAA Game Summary - Samford vs. Davidson

Asheville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - De'Mon Brooks poured in 26 points and 12 rebounds, and the top-seeded Davidson Wildcats cruised past the No. 8 seed Samford Bulldogs, 77-54, in quarterfinal-round action of the Southern Conference Tournament at U.S. Cellular Arena.

Reserves Jack Gibbs and Jordan Barham added 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wildcats (20-11), who are in search of their third straight SoCon title. They will await No. 5 seed Western Carolina in Sunday's semifinal round.

The Bulldogs (13-20) were unable to carry over the momentum from Friday's 14- point win over ninth-seeded Appalachian State. Jordan Capps had 14 points off the bench, but he was the only player in double figures for Samford as the team's starters combined to shoot just 33 percent from the floor.

It was all Davidson in the early going, as Brooks and Gibbs helped the Wildcats sprint out to a 28-8 lead. That duo combined to go 6-of-6 from the floor during that stretch, including four 3-pointers. Davidson eventually went into the break with a 42-26 halftime lead.

The Wildcats shot just 38.5 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but they effectively put the game away with an 11-0 spurt late in regulation as they led by as many as 25.

The win was the 13th in a row for Davidson, which held a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers for the game and outscored Samford at the foul line, 20-6.
