NCAA Game Summary - Appalachian State vs. Samford

Asheville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Williams poured in 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Samford to a 70-56 victory over Appalachian State in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Michael Bradley added 14 points and Connor Miller chipped in 11 for Samford (13-19), which advanced to face top-seeded Davidson in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Tab Hamilton and Frank Eaves each scored 11 points for Appalachian State (9-21), which had beaten Samford twice this season. The Mountaineers' only two wins in their last eight games had come against the Bulldogs.

Appalachian State led by five early, but went into the break down 29-25 and tied the game early in the second half at 31-31. The Bulldogs followed with an 11-2 run, highlighted by a Miller triple, and led for the remainder of the contest.

The Mountaineers clawed within 57-51 on a Hamilton layup with just over five minutes to play, but the Bulldogs answered with the next six points -- including four from Williams -- to again pull away.
