NCAA Game Summary - Georgia State at Arkansas State

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Atkins scored a career-high 30 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, as the Georgia State Panthers held off the Arkansas State Red Wolves in overtime, 79-76, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Convocation Center.

Atkins shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range for the conference-champion Panthers (23-7, 16-1 Sun Belt), winners of six straight. Ryan Harrow chipped in 18 points, while Devonta White tallied 13 points and six assists.

For ASU (17-11, 9-7), which has lost back-to-back games, Melvin Johnson III came off the bench to score 19, Kirk Van Slyke netted 18 and Brandon Reed and Cameron Golden had 13 points apiece.

ASU shot 40 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 33.3 percent for the Panthers, as it took a 30-27 lead into the break.

After GSU came back to take a 46-45 lead with 11:12 to play on a White 3- pointer, the Red Wolves went back ahead less than a minute later and extended that advantage to seven with five minutes to go. The Panthers pieced together a 16-6 run to take a three-point lead with 12 seconds to play, but Johnson III knocked down the game-tying 3-pointer on the other end to force overtime.

The Panthers scored the first points of the extra session and never coughed up the lead from there, shooting 3-of-4 from the field and 4-of-6 at the foul line over the final five minutes to seal their fate.

GSU shot 15-of-19 from the free-throw line on the evening, while ASU was only 6-of-10.
