NCAA Game Summary - Appalachian State at Samford

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by Tommy Spagnolo's 21 points and 10 rebounds, the Appalachian State Mountaineers came from behind to defeat the Samford Bulldogs, 63-57, in a Southern Conference clash at the Pete Hanna Center.

Spagnolo shot 8-of-11 from the field and added two blocks and two steals for ASU (9-19, 5-10 SoCon), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Aaron Scott came off the bench to scored 11 for the visitors.

For Samford (11-19, 5-10), losers of four straight, Tim Williams posted 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Michael Bradley registered nine points and 11 rebounds and Isaiah Williams dished out seven assists.

Although Samford outshot ASU from the field in the first half, 59.1 percent to 42.4 percent, it attempted 11 fewer field goals than the Mountaineers, who took a 33-30 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs took control of the contest early in the second stanza, running out to an eight-point lead with 7:19 to play, but the Mountaineers finished the game off on a 17-3 run, with Tevin Baskin's layup with 56 seconds left proving to be the game-winner.

Neither team shot greater than 58 percent at the free-throw line on the evening, but ASU outscored Samford at the stripe, 19-6. The Bulldogs were also plagued by 25 turnovers.
