NCAA Game Summary - Canisius at Manhattan

Riverdale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - George Beamon netted 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor as the Manhattan Jaspers outlasted the Canisius Golden Griffins, 68-63, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown at Draddy Gymnasium.

RaShawn Stores contributed 15 points and three assists for Manhattan (22-7, 15-5 MAAC), which ended the regular season on a two-game win streak. The Jaspers earned the outright second seed in the conference after Quinnipiac and Canisius both lost on Sunday.

Chris Perez scored 13 points to pace Canisius (20-11, 14-6), adding four rebounds and three steals to his stat line. Billy Baron chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the loss, which ended a two-game win streak for the Golden Griffins.

Manhattan started the game strong, shooting an even 60 percent from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-9 from 3-point distance. The Jaspers took a 45-32 lead into the intermission after Canisius hit 40 percent of its shots in the frame, including just 2-of-9 from deep.

The Jaspers cooled down to 33.3 percent shooting in the second half, as the team made just 1-of-6 from beyond the arc. Manhattan did connect on 10-of-18 from the free-throw line, however. Canisius dropped down to 35.7 percent shooting in the period, and outscored Manhattan, 31-23, in the half, but still came up short in the season finale.

The Jaspers had the edge in points in the paint, 32-18, and in points off turnovers, 21-18. Canisius won the battle in second chance points, 14-7.
