NCAA Game Summary - Niagara at Monmouth
West Long Branch, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Nicholas shot 10-of-13 from the floor en route to 27 points, as the Monmouth Hawks downed the Niagara Purple Eagles, 75-50, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at the MAC.
Nicholas was 4-of-5 from 3-point range for Monmouth (11-19, 5-14 MAAC), which saw its losing streak end at nine games. Deon Jones added 16 points and nine rebounds for the hosts.
For Niagara (6-24, 3-16), losers of nine in a row, Antoine Mason was the lone player in double figures with 15 points.
Monmouth ran out to a comfortable 41-25 lead at halftime after shooting a lofty 52 percent from the field in the opening stanza. Niagara struggled with its shot, making just 33.3 percent from the floor, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks never broke a sweat in the second half, as they continued their hot field goal shooting (.500) and extended their advantage to as many as 32.
Niagara was plagued by a game-high 24 turnovers, which Monmouth turned into 19 points. The Hawks also outscored the Purple Eagles in the paint, 38-22.
