NCAA Game Summary - Hawaii at UC Irvine

Irvine, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Isaac Fotu scored 30 points, shooting 13- of-16 from the floor, as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors survived in overtime against UC Irvine, 90-86, in Big West Conference play at the Bren Events Center.

Garrett Nevels contributed 19 points, although he shot just 1-of-6 behind the 3-point line for the Rainbow Warriors (14-5, 3-2 Big West), while Keith Shamburger produced a double-double consisting of 17 points and 11 assists as the team grabbed a third straight win. Also scoring in double figures for the visitors were Christian Standhardinger and Brandon Spearman with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Anteaters (13-8, 4-1) were paced by Alex Young who led six in double figures with his 14 points. Aaron Wright, Mamadou Ndiaye and Chris McNealy all added 12 points, followed by Luke Nelson and Will Davis II with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the squad had a six-game win streak come to an end.

Hawaii led by 10 early in the first half, but that was before the Anteaters heated up and knocked down 55.6 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action. With 10-of-13 accuracy at the free-throw line in the period as well, UCI moved out to a 43-38 edge at the break.

In the second half the roles reversed as the hosts moved out to a double-digit advantage thanks to a staggering 61.5 percent shooting from the field, but at the same time Irvine made just 3-of-10 at the charity stripe. UCI led by a 77-71 margin with only 90 seconds left in regulation, but a triple by Shamburger in the final moments sent the meeting to overtime knotted at 78-78.

In the extra session the Rainbow Warriors made good on 3-of-5 from the floor and 6-of-7 at the line in order to pull out the four-point victory.

The meeting featured five ties and seven lead changes and while the hosts outscored Hawaii in the paint, 52-20, it still wasn't enough to get the Anteaters back into the win column.
