NCAA Game Summary - Charlotte at Marshall

Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Pierria Henry tallied 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lift the Charlotte 49ers to a 74-70 decision over the Marshall Thundering Herd in a Conference USA matchup at the Cam Henderson Center.

Mike Thorne Jr. recorded a double-double for the 49ers (16-13, 7-9 C-USA) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Willie Clayton notched a double-double of his own with 15 points and 10 boards. Thorne Jr. made eight of his nine field goal attempts and Henry sank 7-of-8 shots at the charity stripe. Charlotte has now won back-to-back games following its six-game losing slide.

Kareem Canty paced Marshall (10-22, 4-12) with 22 points and seven assists. Canty was limited to 8-of-21 efficiency from the floor and Chris Thomas, who chimed in with 17 points and nine boards, knocked down only 6-of-17 shots from the field. The loss was the fourth in five games for the Herd.

Charlotte hit on 50 percent of its field goal attempts and converted 7-of-10 shots at the free-throw line in the opening period en route to a 34-31 halftime lead. The Herd stayed within striking distance despite shooting just 37.5 percent from the floor in the first half.

Marshall continued to struggle with its accuracy as it was held to 39.5 percent efficiency from the field after the break. The 49ers increased their lead to 12 by the 3:05 mark of the second half before the hosts staged a late rally. With Charlotte leading, 73-70, with only seven seconds remaining in regulation, Ben Cherry drained a free-throw attempt to seal the victory.

Charlotte enjoyed a 43-38 edge in the rebounding battle. The contest featured eight ties and 10 lead changes.
