NCAA Game Summary - Utah State at San Jose State

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Spencer Butterfield scored a game-high 22 points, shooting 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line, as the Utah State Aggies defeated the San Jose State Spartans, 75-58, in Mountain West Conference play at The Event Center.

Butterfield, who converted 7-of-12 from the floor overall for the Aggies (16-13, 6-11 MWC), added seven rebounds and three assists as USU snapped a four-game slide. Jarred Shaw logged a double-double consisting of 19 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, followed by Preston Medlin with 12 points for the visitors.

The Spartans (7-21, 1-15), losers of two straight and 15 of the last 16 decisions, were paced by DJ Brown who came of the bench to drop in 15 points. Jaleel Williams accounted for 11 points, Jalen James and Chris Cunningham 10 apiece, the latter also clearing nine rebounds in the setback. The team's leading scorer, Rashad Muhammad (13.3 ppg), finished with a mere five points on 1-of-8 shooting from the field.

Utah State scored the first points of the night and never looked back, limiting the hosts to a mere 25.9 percent shooting from the floor over the first 20 minutes, en route to a 39-28 score at the break. San Jose State also converted just 4-of-15 behind the 3-point line in the first period.

In the second half it was more of the same for the floundering SJSU offense as it connected on only nine field goals, 2-of-11 on the perimeter, as the Aggies ran away with the victory.

The Spartans shot a miserable 29.6 percent from the field and 6-of-26 beyond the arc on the night.
