NCAA Game Summary - Santa Clara at Loyola Marymount

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Evan Payne poured in a game-high 27 points, as the Loyola Marymount Lions held off the Santa Clara Broncos, 75-71, in a West Coast Conference bout at Gersten Pavilion.

Payne shot 11-of-17 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line for LMU (12-17, 4-13 WCC), which snapped a seven-game losing streak. Anthony Ireland netted 20 points, Gabe Levin scored 10 and Alex Osborne put up nine points and 11 rebounds.

For Santa Clara (12-18, 5-12), losers of two straight, Evan Roquemore poured in 19 points, Brandon Clark finished with 17 points and Jared Brownridge had 12 points.

Although Santa Clara was outshot from the field in the first half by LMU, 44 percent to 41.4 percent, it knocked down six 3-pointers compared to just one for the Lions, as it held a 34-30 lead a the break.

The Broncos surged ahead by four early in the second half, but the Lions used a 15-3 run to take an eight-point advantage with 11:05 left. Santa Clara would bring its deficit to just two points in the final minutes but could never overtake the lead.

LMU won the rebounding battle, 34-30, and outscored Santa Clara in second- chance points, 17-8.
