NCAA Game Summary - UAB at Rice

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chad Frazier made a layup with two seconds left in regulation to lift the UAB Blazers to a 61-60 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference USA thriller at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Frazier finished with a game-high 17 points and also dealt out six assists for UAB (18-10, 7-7 C-USA). Fahro Alihodzic added 11 points and eight rebounds, while C.J. Washington chipped in 10 points and three blocks.

For the Owls (7-20, 2-12), Sean Obi tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Austin Ramljak and Seth Gearhart scored 11 points apiece as Rice suffered its fifth consecutive setback.

Both sides struggled offensively in the opening stanza. Rice connected on only 35.5 percent of its shots from the floor and the Blazers hit on 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts. UAB converted 12-of-13 attempts at the charity stripe en route to a narrow, 31-30, halftime lead.

The Owls heated up to sink 43.3 percent of their field goal tries after the break. Although UAB was limited to 40 percent efficiency from the floor, it outscored the hosts, 6-2, at the free-throw line in the second period. Obi knocked down a jumper with 34 seconds left in regulation to give the hosts a three-point edge. Alihodzic made a layup on UAB's next possession to make it a one-point game and Gearhart had a jumper blocked by Washington on the other end. The Blazers called timeout with just three seconds showing on the clock to set up Frazier's late game heroics.

The contest featured four ties and three lead changes. UAB scored six second chance points compared to none by the Owls.
