NCAA Game Summary - East Carolina at Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jackson Trapp led the way with 22 points as the Florida Atlantic Owls defeated the East Carolina Pirates, 78-67, in a Conference USA tilt at FAU Arena.

For the Owls (6-11, 2-1 C-USA), Marquan Botley added 17 points, Pablo Bertone finished with 13 points, Justin Raffington posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds and D'Andre Johnson dished out six assists.

Akeem Richmond led the Pirates (11-6, 0-2) with 20 points, Michael Zangari notched a double-double of his own with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Caleb White chipped in with 12 points.

FAU made just 34.4 percent of its field goals tries in the opening period, including 5-of-16 from beyond the arc, ECU was somewhat better from the field, making 40.7 percent of its field goal attempts and shot a nearly identical 5- of-15 from 3-point range. The Pirates jumped out to an early 15-4 lead but the Owls were able to make it all the way back and tie it in the final minute of the half before Richmond drained a 3-pointer to give the Pirates a 33-30 advantage going into halftime.

FAU shot 48.3 percent from the field in the second half, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range. ECU struggled from the floor in the second, shooting just 33.3 percent and 3-of-12 from deep. The teams traded leads early in the first and were knotted at 56-56 with just over nine minutes to play. The Owls then went on a 14-3 run to seal the game and the Pirates never challenged again.

FAU forced 12 turnovers and converted them into 15 points, while committing just six miscues of its own. The Owls had the edge on points in the paint, 30-24.
