NCAA Game Summary - Alabama at Georgia

Athens, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Charles Mann tallied 22 points and seven rebounds as the Georgia Bulldogs held off the Alabama Crimson Tide for a 66-58 victory in a Southeastern Conference defensive battle at Stegeman Coliseum.

Kenny Gaines also scored 22 points for Georgia (8-6, 2-0 SEC) as it picked up its second straight win. Marcus Thornton added nine points and grabbed five of his eight boards on the offensive end.

Trevor Releford paced the Crimson Tide (7-8, 1-1) with 17 points. Rodney Cooper contributed 15 points and six rebounds while Shannon Hale scored 14 points.

The Bulldogs took a 34-23 lead into the intermission after they shot 44 percent from the field and converted 8-of-10 attempts at the free-throw line in the first half. Alabama was limited to 2-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

The Crimson Tide drained 13-of-19 attempts at the charity stripe in the second period. Alabama managed to narrow the deficit down to three points at 46-43 with 7:37 left in regulation, but the hosts answered with a 4-0 run that put it out of reach for good.

Despite the loss, Alabama outscored the Bulldogs, 30-18, in the paint. Georgia enjoyed a 41-32 edge in the rebounding battle.
