NCAA Game Summary - Texas Southern at Texas Tech

Lubbock, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaye Crockett scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Texas Southern Tigers, 80-71, in the opening round of the Legends Classic at the United Spirit Arena.

Dusty Hannahs had 19 points for the Red Raiders (3-1), 17 of which came in the second half. Robert Turner added 15 points and Jordan Tolbert chipped in 11.

Jose Rodriguez registered a double-double with 29 points and 10 boards for the Tigers (2-3). Ray Penn had 15 points and four assists. D'Angelo Scott contributed 11 points.

Texas Tech played a clean first half only turning the ball over two times. The Red Raiders also drained 50 percent of their shots en route to a 31-26 halftime advantage. Texas Southern only managed to score four points in the paint during the first stanza.

The visitors tied the game up with 7:24 remaining after Scott made 1-of-2 free-throw attempts. Texas Tech regained the lead 19 seconds later on a Tolbert field goal and never looked back. The Red Raiders hit on 57.1 percent on their shot attempts over the final 20 minutes to pull away.

Texas Tech's reserves outscored Texas Southern's bench, 27-0. The Red Raiders also held a sizeable, 42-24, edge in points in the paint.

The Red Raiders will face South Dakota State on Thursday in their next matchup in the Legends Classic. The Tigers will take on Stanford at Maples Pavilion on Thursday.
