NCAA Game Summary - Western Carolina at Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarell Eddie scored 17 points to lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a 79-61 beating of the Western Carolina Catamounts as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Cassell Coliseum.

Ben Emelogu had 16 points off the bench and Trevor Thompson posted a double- double (15 points, 11 rebounds), also as a reserve, for Virginia Tech (2-1).

James Sinclair paced Western Carolina (2-2) with 16 points while Trey Sumler added 11 on just 5-of-14 shooting.

Virginia Tech rolled into the half leading 38-18. The Hokies hit 51.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the period and limited the Catamounts to just six field goals.

After the break the Hokies shot at a 42.9 percent clip, but they also netted 20-of-28 shots from the free throw line, to coast to the win.

The Hokies enjoyed a 46-32 edge on the boards and a 34-26 advantage on points in the paint.
