Northeastern edges Boston 87-77

BOSTON (AP) T.J. Williams scored 30 points and Alex Murphy added 20 as Northeastern edged Boston 87-77 in a season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Williams was 9 of 15 from the field and hit 11 of 15 free throws for the Huskies. Murphy was 7 of 10 from the field including three 3-pointers and had eight assists. Donnell Gresham Jr. added 12 points and three rebounds.

Northeastern took an early lead in the first half and Williams dunked it to give put the Huskies up by 10, 25-15, with 9:05 to play in the first half. They never trailed after that and were up 41-25 at the break.

Boston closed the gap to trail 84-76 on a dunk by Eric Fanning with 16 seconds to play but two free throws by Williams with 12 seconds left kept the Huskies on top.

Fanning led the Terriers with 29 points. Justin Alston added 12 points and eight rebounds.
