Murray's 23 helps Pepperdine survive Cal Poly 77-68

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) Lamond Murray scored 23 points, Chris Reyes added 20, and Pepperdine pulled away late for a 77-68 win over Cal Poly in its season opener on Friday night.

Pepperdine led 39-31 at halftime and maintained the advantage with Ryan Keenan's layup to give the Waves a 49-41 lead with 13:27 to play. But Cal Poly used a 10-2 run capped by Victor Joseph's 3-pointer to tie it at 51 midway through the half.

The Waves answered with nine straight points, and Cal Poly never seriously threatened again.

Jeremy Major had 11 assists for Pepperdine, moving into fourth place on the Waves' all-time assist list.

Josh Martin tallied career highs with 17 points and 21 rebounds for the Mustangs en route to his third career double-double. Luke Meikle also had 17 points for Cal Poly.
