Loyola(Chi) uses spurt after half to beat Alcorn State 69-44

CHICAGO (AP) Milton Doyle scored 21 points, had six assists and three rebounds to lift Loyola-Chicago past Alcorn State 69-44 on Friday night.

The win gives the Ramblers their fifth consecutive season-opening win. Loyola used a 17-0 run early in the second half to take control of the game.

The Ramblers struggled from the field and foul line in the first half, shooting 1-for-10 from beyond the 3-point arc and 6-for-14 from the free throw line.

Reginal Johnson gave the Braves a 35-33 lead on a layup with 14:19 remaining to play, before Clayton Custer's 3 ignited the second half run. Custer-who scored 10 points-made another 3 to put Loyola on top 50-35.

The Braves got no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Marquis Vance, the Braves' leading scorer, had all 12 of his points in the first half and 10 of his 11 rebounds before the break.
