Middle Tennessee wins in 1st NCAA D-I game of season 102-64

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) JaCorey Williams and Reggie Upshaw each scored 21 points to help Middle Tennessee beat Milligan 102-64 in the first NCAA Division I game of the season Friday.

Williams and Upshaw combined to score 10 of Middle Tennessee's first 12 points and the Blue Raiders cruised to a 51-29 halftime lead. The duo finished 18 of 27 from the floor.

Antwain Johnson added 17 points for Middle Tennessee, which made 55.7 percent of its field-goal attempts and had 23 assists. Giddy Potts, a preseason All-Conference USA selection with Upshaw, had 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Upshaw grabbed 13 rebounds as the Blue Raiders had a 49-29 edge.

The Blue Raiders, who lost three starters from last season, reached the century mark for the first time since Dec. 9, 2013.

Will Buckner scored 10 points for Milligan (2-2), which counted the game as an exhibition.
