Davis, Charlotte rally from 14-point deficit, beat Newberry

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Jon Davis made 9 of 12 from the field and scored 24 of his career-high 28 points in the second half, Andrien White hit six 3-pointers and Charlotte rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit to beat Division II Newberry 101-88 on Friday night.

Davis hit 3 of 3 from 3-point range and 7 of 7 free throws and White finished with 20 points. Braxton Ogbueze added 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting with five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

Rob Valentine hit a 3 to give Newberry its largest lead, 67-53, with 12:07 to play. But Davis scored 22 points, including nine in a row, during a 33-3 run that gave Charlotte (1-0) a 16-point lead five minutes later.

The 49ers hit 36 of 68 (53 percent) field-goal attempts and shot 41 percent from 3-point range.

D.J. Copeland scored 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 4 of 4 from 3-point range, for Newberry (0-1).
