Thorpe scores 19, South Florida beats Florida A&M 84-73

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Geno Thorpe debuted with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting, Ruben Guerrero scored 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and South Florida beat Florida A&M 84-73 in Friday night's opener for both teams.

Bo Zeigler added 15 and Michael Bibby had 10 for South Florida, which scored its most points in an opener since 2002.

The Bulls led early 12-11 on Tulio Da Silva's free throw, built a 45-32 halftime lead and never trailed. Da Silva finished with nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

South Florida outrebounded the Rattlers 47-32 and outshot them from the field 54 percent to 35 percent.

Marcus Barham scored 22 points and Craig Bowman added 20. Bowman hit 4 of 7 from long distance and had five steals for Florida A&M. The Rattlers got 14 points from their bench compared with South Florida's 21.
