Report: Bosh still has 'medical hurdles' to clear

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

By all accounts, Miami Heat center Chris Bosh is recovering nicely following a second scare with blood clot issues.

Bosh released a statement Thursday where he confidently declared a positive outlook towards returning to the team this season in advance of a likely playoff run.

However, the 30-year-old isn't out of the woods just yet, as Bosh still has "medical hurdles" to clear before he's allowed to rejoin the team to take part in extensive basketball work, sources tell ESPN's Michael Wallace.

Wallace adds it's unclear whether the Heat's doctors are in total agreement with Bosh's personal medical advisors in gaining clearance to return.

For now, the Heat remain mum on updates to Bosh's condition in an effort to respect his privacy.

At the very least, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed Bosh is in a "good place mentally."

"We love Chris, and he's in a great place right now," Spoelstra said Friday. "He's working out right now in Miami. When we get back, we'll be able to do some workouts with him. But more than anything else, he's in a good place mentally. We don't have a timetable or anything like that. We're just happy he's healthy."

The Heat have fared well in Bosh's absence, going 8-3 since the All-Star break.
