The New York Knicks made a strong push to acquire Minnesota Timberwolves sharpshooter Kevin Martin, but a deal between the two sides is unlikely to come to fruition, according to ESPN's Marc Stein, citing sources.
Should he remain with the Timberwolves following the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, Martin's contract may be bought out by the franchise.
In order for that to happen, though, the 33-year-old veteran would have to surrender his $7.4-million player option for the 2016-17 season.
Martin has missed the last nine games with a wrist injury. He's currently averaging 11.3 points while shooting 36.4 percent from deep, along with two rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.6 minutes for the 17-37 Timberwolves.
