Hawks' Splitter won't play in reunion vs. Spurs

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Hawks center Tiago Splitter will miss his fourth straight game on Saturday, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Splitter continues to battle a hip injury and will sit out his reunion with the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he spent the first five years of his career.

His new home in Atlanta is perhaps the closest facsimile of San Antonio. The team was largely built by a former Spur in Danny Ferry, head coach Mike Budenholzer spent 17 years as an assistant with the Spurs, and, like the Spurs, the Hawks run a motion offense.

Splitter has largely struggled, however, since joining the Hawks following an offseason trade. He's averaging 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting an abysmal 48.5 percent from the field.

Backup big Mike Muscala has soaked up most of Splitter's minutes in his absence.
