Rose doubtful Wednesday vs. Suns due to ankle sprain

Derrick Rose downplayed the severity of the left ankle injury he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Indiana Pacers on Monday, calling it "just a regular ankle sprain."

Still, even a run-of-the-mill sprain takes time to heal, and Rose has been officially listed as doubtful on the Chicago Bulls' injury report for the team's game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

Before the oft-injured point guard hobbled off the court Monday, he was enjoying of one of his best games of the young season, scoring 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting - including 2-of-2 from downtown, after he hit just one 3-pointer (on 18 attempts) in the first nine games of the campaign.

Rose has also been playing with double vision - something Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg says could last another three months - owing to the fractured orbital bone he suffered in training camp.

Even after Monday's performance, Rose's aggregate numbers are ugly: 13.6 points per game, a .377/.150/.793 shooting line, and an 11.2 PER. The Bulls, to this point, have been 11 points per 100 possessions better with him on the bench than on the floor.
