Warriors hang on to preserve perfect record with gutsy win over Nets

Cary Edmondson / USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors almost lost for the first time this season Saturday night.

Almost.

Pushing their record to 11-0 was no easy feat, as the Brooklyn Nets came as close to upending the reigning champions as any other opponent this season.

After coming out of the gates strong with a 36-21 lead after the first quarter, the Nets battled hard in order to put themselves in a position to come away with the victory at the end of regulation.

However, with 9.9 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and possession of the ball, Andre Iguodala - not sharpshooter Stephen Curry - was the one taking the final shot.

Iggy's shot sent the nailbiter into overtime, where the Nets failed to score more than two points as the Dubs rattled off 10 points, running away triumphantly once again.

Interim head coach Luke Walton was without Klay Thompson in this contest. The other half of the "Splash Brothers" missed the game with back stiffness.

Curry scored 21 of his 34 points after halftime, while Draymond Green recorded his second career triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Nets point guard Jarrett Jack was a man possessed on this night - tallying a season-high 28 points along with nine dimes - willing his team with numerous heroics plays throughout the contest.

But alas, a Warriors loss was not meant to be.

With their 107-99 defeat of the Nets, Golden State extended its winning streak at Oracle Arena to 24 consecutive games - a franchise record.

The next team to have an opportunity to topple the still-undefeated Warriors: the Toronto Raptors.
