Wesley Matthews: Will play Friday

Matthews (Achilles) will make his preseason debut Friday, Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

Matthews has been ramping up his activity level since the start of camp, and it now appears as though he has a legitimate chance to play in the Mavericks' regular season opener, as he's declared all along. The Mavs will likely wait to see how his Achilles responds following Friday's contest before making an official call, however. Matthews projects to be the unquestioned starter at shooting guard this season, and he'll likely again be among the league's top three-point threats.
