Warriors' Kerr on Curry: 'Nothing left to say, except that he's the MVP'

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Steve Kerr didn't want to campaign.

He even threw shade on the Houston Rockets for doing as much for their MVP candidate, James Harden.

But not even Kerr could keep himself from gushing after Stephen Curry dropped the proverbial mic Thursday, scoring 45 points in the Golden State Warriors victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, in the process breaking his own record for 3-point field goals in a season.

The win moved the Warriors to 64-15, by far the NBA's best record, and Curry's now averaging 23.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists and two steals while shooting 48.6 percent overall, 44.2 percent on threes and 91.5 percent at the free-throw line. We'd go on, but let's defer to Kerr, who admitted that this was his version of campaigning for his player.

"There's nothing left to say," Kerr said. "Except that he's the MVP. He was, he was just - I don't even know how to describe what I watched tonight."

The MVP race is going to be a tight one, with Harden and Curry the presumptive favorites but LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul all having strong cases as well. Beyond box score stats, advanced stats and team context, the most impressive line on Curry's resume may be that he finally got Kerr to break and publicly push for his star to get the award.

Voters have until April 16 to make their decision. We don't envy them having to do so, but theScore will be making a case for each candidate throughout next week, so check back for that.
