Wizards to rest Wall vs. 76ers on Wednesday

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Wizards will take the opportunity to rest point guard John Wall on Wednesday as they travel to play the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post.

The Wizards still have a decent chance of catching the Toronto Raptors for homecourt advantage in the first round, trailing by just one game (though the Raptors hold the tiebreaker), but appear to feel confident enough in their ability to beat the Sixers without their leading scorer and playmaker.

Giving Wall a breather before the playoffs is probably a wise move, but winning without him, even to the anemic Sixers, is far from guaranteed.

Without Wall on the floor this season, the Wizards offense - which is no great shakes to begin with - has bettered only Philadelphia's league-worst unit. They've been outscored by 9.4 points per 100 possessions with him on the bench, according to Basketball-Reference, which is actually worse than the Sixers' overall net rating (9.1).

The Sixers also beat the Wizards last time the two teams played in Philadelphia, and that was with Wall in uniform.
