Matt Barnes: NBA would try to 'put me in jail' for kicking LeBron

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Barnes likes to say what's on his mind, whether he's on or off the court. That's why it's not entirely surprising he couldn't resist weighing in on the James Harden-LeBron James incident.

Harden kicked James in the groin during Sunday's chippy contest and stayed in the game after being assessed a flagrant foul. Barnes believes he would've been dealt a much stiffer penalty.

Barnes, of course, is no stranger to run-ins with the league. The veteran wing has been suspended multiple times throughout his career and been fined repeatedly – including 14 times alone this season, according to Spotrac. He's paid an estimated $200,000 in fines throughout his career.

While the majority of Barnes' fines have been small in nature for technical fouls, he has had to cough up five figures on seven different occasions throughout his career, including twice this season.

  • 04/01/2011: $16,045 for escalating a fight
  • 10/30/2012: $11,175 for an incident with police
  • 02/01/2013: $11,175 for on-court physical altercation
  • 11/14/2013: $25,000 for failure to leave court after ejection; language on social media
  • 12/23/2013: $25,000 for failure to leave court in timely manner
  • 12/13/2014: $25,000 for kicking water bottle into stands, using inappropriate language toward fans
  • 01/27/2015: $25,000 for using inappropriate language toward fans

Knowing Barnes' luck, and aggressiveness to include the NBA's official Twitter handle in his tweet, he'll get dinged again.
