Russell Westbrook: Suffers Facial Injury, Severity Unknown

Westbrook finished with a third consecutive triple-double in Friday's loss to the Trail Blazers, but more importantly, he suffered a facial injury to his right cheek with 1.4 seconds left in the game, and it remains unclear how serious the injury is, the Oklahoman reports.

Analysis:

Westbrook was on the ground in a flurry of players, and as everyone scrambled away, his teammate Andre Roberson inadvertently ran into Westbrook, firmly running his knee into Westbrook's right cheekbone. A literal dent could plainly be seen in Westbrook's cheek, but he seemed relatively OK. More information about the injury should come out over the weekend. Westbrook posted 40 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists, and one steal in 37 minutes Friday. The record for most consecutive triple-doubles is nine by Wilt Chamberlain, and the modern day record is held by Michael Jordan, who had seven straight. Westbrook should be considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Lakers, and with the Sixers on the docket the next game after that, there's a good chance he sits out the next two games if there's any concern at all about his facial injury.
