Carmelo Anthony: (Knee) Will Undergo Surgery

Anthony (knee) is expected to undergo surgery in the near future, which will rule him out for the rest of the season, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

Analysis:

As expected, Anthony will opt for surgery on the knee that's been bothering him since the second week of the season. He prolonged surgery to participate in this past weekend's All-Star festivities, but with the Knicks well out of contention and jockeying for draft position, there's little incentive for the forward to take the court. The team made an official announcement Wednesday afternoon, clarifying that the surgery will focus specifically on repairing Anthony's patella tendon. According to Phil Jackson, Anthony faces a four-to-six month recovery period, though Anthony, himself, has previously stated he believes he'll require less time.
