Mavericks' Rondo to miss at least 3 games with facial fracture

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

There's no good to be found in signing Richard Jefferson. Just ask the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks.

Jefferson inadvertently kneed teammate Rajon Rondo in the head last week as the two battled for a loose ball. Rondo will miss at least the Mavericks' next three contests due to a nasal fracture and an orbital fracture as a result.

There's no timetable for his return, reports Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.

The Mavericks have netted mixed returns since trading for Rondo in December.

In 21 games played, Rondo has averaged 9.2 points, 6.5 assists and five rebounds in 29.1 minutes per game. Rondo's defense at the point has certainly helped the Mavericks, but his lack of a jump shot has stunted the Mavericks' offense. However, the Mavericks have been 5.5 points per-100 possessions better with Rondo on the court.

The real impact of Rondo's injury is its ripple effect on the Mavericks' bench. Without Rondo, the Dallas now has to turn to the trio of Raymond Felton, J.J. Barea and Devin Harris at point - a less-than-satisfactory group.
