Carmelo Anthony rests sore knee Saturday

The New York Knicks will be hard-pressed to extend their winning streak to four games on Saturday, as small forward Carmelo Anthony will sit out to rest his ailing knee, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday.

The Knicks will also be without point guard Jose Calderon, who is also dealing with a knee injury.

Anthony has been plagued by a sore knee for most of the season and whispers have surfaced that the Knicks will soon shut him down for the year. Anthony has taken a few rest games here and there, but he has continued to play, for the most part.

On Friday, Anthony played 42 minutes against the Orlando Magic in an effort to propel the Knicks to a third-consecutive victory. Anthony scored 25 points on 10-of-24 shooting in addition to nabbing seven rebounds.

The Knicks will face the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, who are dealing with their own spate of injuries. Point guard Kemba Walker will sit out due to injury, stripping any sheen that may have gleamed from Saturday's contest.

Anthony is averaging 24.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 36.1 minutes per game.
