VIDEO: Durant posters Gortat, then Westbrook hits OT winner against Wizards

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

It was one heck of a homecoming for Kevin Durant on Wednesday.

Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder traveled to D.C. to take on the Washington Wizards, a visit that's become a bit of an event with the constant questions about whether Durant could jump to the Wizards in 2016. He wasn't willing to go that far, but he didn't disappoint the Wizards faithful.

Durant dropped 34 points in the Thunder's 105-103 overtime victory, shooting 10-of-23 from the floor and adding seven rebounds and three assists for good measure. No two points were bigger or more emphatic than those that came on an overtime dunk, one that must have embarrassed Marcin Gortat and really tickled Kendrick Perkins.

It's hardly surprising to see Durant perform well against Washington, as he entered play Wednesday having averaged 30.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists in  13 games against them in his career. That represents his highest mark against any opponent, save for the Indiana Pacers, and it surely left Wizards fans pining for a potential homecoming two seasons from now.

But leave it to Russell Westbrook to one-up Durant, perhaps in a fit of revenge for Durant one-upping his big dunk from Tuesday night. With time ticking away and the game tied at 103, it was Westbrook, not Durant, with the ball and game in his hands.

And yeah, there's no stopping Westbrook with a north-south head of steam:

"I was going to try and end the game myself," Durant said after the game. "But coach drew a great play ... It was a team play. And Russell made a phenomenal, phenomenal move."

Westbrook finished with 32 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in support of Durant, helping the Thunder move to two games above .500 with a fourth consecutive victory. They'll need to stay hot basically the rest of the season to make up the two-and-a-half games they trail the Phoenix Suns for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
