Kenyon Martin wants to play for the Cavaliers

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost their starting center Wednesday, when the club announced Anderson Varejao is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. An already thin frontcourt is now that much thinner.

Well, Kenyon Martin is around to help. The soon-to-be 37-year-old is recovered from ankle surgery and waiting by the phone.

Martin is far removed from his most productive days with the then-New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets. He played 32 games - starting 15 - for the New York Knicks (obviously) in 2013-14, and averaged a career-low 4.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game. It wasn't all bad, though, as Martin shot 51 percent from the floor.

Martin's averaged 12.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in his 14-year career. He would bring ever-valuable veteran presence to the Cavaliers, and could be a serviceable option in limited minutes if - and that's a big if - he's healthy.

The Cavaliers will undoubtedly be exploring all their options in the coming days, and perhaps one of them will be the Cincinnati product.
