Kirilenko unlikely to travel with Nets due to family issue

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Andrei Kirilenko returned to practice with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, but his return to game action remains very much uncertain.

Kirilenko said Monday that a family matter is likely to prevent him from traveling with the team for the foreseeable future, according to multiple reports. News of Kirilenko's personal situation was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports (see stack below) over the weekend.

The Nets forward said his family issue may not be resolved until early February, and he didn't provide any specifics as to what it's about.

Kirilenko, who wasn't being used by head coach Lionel Hollins while he was with the team, has been linked to trade chatter over the last several weeks. But Nets general manager Billy King acknowledged there's a chance Kirilenko could return to Brooklyn's rotation once he gets back to playing, although that scenario seems unlikely.

Wojnarowski said Kirilenko's situation has likely halted any trade talks regarding the 33-year-old until things are resolved.
