Lakers' Boozer questionable Sunday with a sore shoulder

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers could receive some addition by subtraction on Sunday.

Struggling veteran Carlos Boozer has been deemed questionable for the team's game against the Denver Nuggets due to a sore left shoulder. The shoulder has apparently been bothering Boozer for over a week, but sitting out some practice time helped before he re-aggravated it on Friday against Dallas.

Through 13 games, Boozer is averaging 13.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 27.5 minutes while shooting 49 percent. That's not bad production, but the Lakers have been 17.9 points per-100 possessions worse when Boozer's on the floor than when he's on the bench, partly because of his non-existent defense.

What's more, Boozer stands to be replaced in the starting lineup by Ed Davis, with whom the Lakers have been 13.8 points per-100 possessions better. Davis is averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in just 22.2 minutes, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor and at least making a passing effort on defense.

It would be a little surprising to see Boozer sit, as he's been something of an ironman over the past few seasons: since 2011-12, he's appeared in 234 of a possible 243 games while averaging 29.9 minutes.
