Grizzlies dominate Rockets in battle of top teams, improve to 10-1

Justin Ford / USA TODAY Sports

The highly anticipated contest between the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets wasn't much of a contest at all.

In a matchup of teams with the top two records in the NBA, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 34-18 lead after one quarter and never looked back, making quite the statement with a 119-93 rout.

Mike Conley's 19 points led seven Grizzlies in double figures, as the team shot 53 percent from the field, 41 percent from deep, and 90 percent from the free throw line. They managed to increase their lead to as many as 34 points early in the fourth quarter.

With the win, their fourth straight, the Grizzlies became the first team to 10 wins. The Rockets, on the other hand, fell to 9-2 and will no doubt be concerned with their play of late.

Since starting 6-0, Houston has lost to two rival Western Conference powers in the Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors, and even their wins have been far from confidence building.

They beat the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves and barely survived games against the winless Philadelphia 76ers and undermanned Oklahoma City Thunder, scoring just 69 points on 28.8 percent shooting in OKC.

Luckily for them, they'll be back home to take on the 1-9 Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, while the Grizzlies head north to take on the 8-2 Toronto Raptors.
