Nuggets' Alonzo Gee makes team, Quincy Miller released
Alonzo Gee's offseason bouncing around the NBA as a non-guaranteed trade chip will conclude with a happy ending.
Gee, who was dealt four times this summer before being waived, has made the Denver Nuggets' roster. On Tuesday, the Nuggets released Quincy Miller from his partially-guaranteed deal to make room for him, according to Chris Dempsey of The Denver Post.
The move is a minor surprise, not because of Gee's abilities but because the team swallows $150,000 owed to Miller with the move. That's a relatively small amount, but with the Nuggets fairly close to the luxury tax line and in a prime position for a major trade this season, every bit of flexibility helps.
It also means the team is giving up on the once-promising Miller, their No. 38 overall pick in the 2012 draft. The Baylor product slid further than expected on draft night and looked to be a steal, but has failed to impress over two seasons in Denver. In 59 games, he's averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, shooting a woeful 36.6 percent from the floor.
Gee, six years Miller's senior, has established himself as a capable two-way wing over the past five seasons. His being dealt multiple times wasn't a talent issue, but the unfortunate outcome of having an appreciable and non-guaranteed salary during the summer.
Over 277 career games with Washington, San Antonio and Cleveland, Gee has averaged 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds, flashing just enough of a 3-point stroke at 32.9 percent that teams need to pay attention to him in a corner.
Over seven preseason games, Gee outperformed Miller on both ends of the floor.

For his part, Miller is taking the right approach to things on social media, thanking fans - and there are plenty, as Miller was something of an end-of-bench fan-favorite in Denver - for their support.
