Clippers' Davis out with groin strain

The Los Angeles Clippers' big man depth took a slight hit this week, as power forward Glen Davis suffered a groin strain that could see him miss the beginning of the regular season.

Davis suffered the injury setting a screen in practice on Thursday.

"I don't give a time frame, but no time soon," head coach Doc Rivers said, according to ESPN LA. "I think it will be close (to the season opener). I think he'll be back playing by then, but I don't know if he'll be in basketball shape to play."

The Clippers begin their regular season on Oct. 30 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Davis averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 68 games for the Clippers and Orlando Magic last season, but only averaged 13 minutes per game in his 23 appearances for the Clippers.

The Clippers have one of the best rotations of big men in the league, led by Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and newcomer Spencer Hawes.

Davis and Ekpe Udoh are options off the bench as well, with Matt Barnes and Hedo Turkoglu also able to play some four in smaller lineups.
