Stephen Curry on Charlotte: 'I've always had thoughts about playing at home'

Stephen Curry has emerged as one of the NBA's premier talents with the Warriors, making his first All-Star game and being selected to his first All-NBA (2nd) Team in 2013-14, and he still has three years remaining on his current contract in Golden State.

But the future plans of superstars - no matter how far down the road those plans may be - are always monitored closely, and some recent comments by Curry have raised eyebrows about the potential of the young guard eventually playing for his hometown Hornets.

"I'm sure there's no better feeling than going home," Curry told the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday in regards to LeBron James' decision to leave Miami for Cleveland.

Via Inside Bay Area:

"I've always had thoughts about playing at home, what it would be like," said Curry, who is in the middle of a four-year, $44 million contract extension with the Warriors. "My dad played there for 10 years, and people around the Greater Charlotte area in North Carolina have done a lot for my family growing up, so you always think about it.

"Right now I feel like I've got three years left on my deal, so this isn't going to be an issue for me for a while. I love the Bay Area and where we are as a team trying to win a championship, and that's what it's all about. Of course everybody dreams about or thinks about what it's going to be like to play at home. Obviously if that opportunity comes along it's a different discussion."

The Warriors are already a 50-plus win team and are not far off from legitimate championship contention, while Charlotte's 43-win campaign marked just the second time in 10 seasons that the team finished with a winning record, so Golden State remains the more practical option right now.

A lot can happen over a span of three years, however, and no one should be counting Charlotte out of a future Curry sweepstakes, especially now that Hugo - and the Hornets name - have returned to the city.
