The first close signing of the offseason has been reported, and while it can't become official until July 10, it sure is a doozy.

Okay, the jest is perhaps unfair. C.J. Miles is a solid player and fills an obvious need for the Indiana Pacers, who have little in the way of flexibility depending on what happens with free agent Lance Stephenson. Jumping on Miles now and getting him for just the bi-annual exception of $2.08 million would be a prudent move.

Adrian Wojnarowski later updated his report, reflecting that the Pacers could look to use part of their mid-level exception on Miles instead of the bi-annual exception, in the event Miles commands more money.

Last season with Cleveland, Miles shot 39.3 percent on threes and averaged 9.9 points. A 35 percent career 3-point shooter, the 27-year-old Miles would help with bench scoring and floor spacing, perhaps not upgrading but providing a different look from Evan Turner and Orlando Johnson.
