Andrew Wiggins' goals for his rookie season: All-Defensive, All-Star, Rookie of the Year

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Number one overall pick Cleveland Cavaliers forward Andrew Wiggins has his work cut out for him.

Wiggins was asked about his goals for his first year in the league. His response, as relayed by Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders:

"I want to come in and create an impact off the bat, offensively and defensively, be a good teammate, be a good part of the organization. I want to be on the All-Defensive team, be Rookie of the Year, make the All-Star team."

Well, at least he isn't short on confidence.

On one hand, it's good that Wiggins has such high expectations for himself. It reflects well on his demeanor, and it shows, at least in his words, that he's ambitious. His lofty goals pleased head coach David Blatt, who responded, "I like that."

But in setting the bar almost impossibly high, Wiggins leaves himself vulnerable to the critics and naysayers. Consider this: not even former Cavalier LeBron James aspired to those heights in his rookie season.

In fact, the last player ever to meet Wiggins' standards? None other than the player who defeated James in the NBA Finals, Tim Duncan. In 1997-98, Duncan earned the title of Rookie of the Year, netted an All-Star appearance, and was voted to the All-Defensive second team.
