Wizards' Gortat on Game 6: 'Unfortunately, we gonna play at home'

Brian Spurlock / USA Today Sports

The Washington Wizards avoided elimination on Tuesday night with a decisive victory over the Indiana Pacers.

The win came in Indiana, which is impressive but perhaps not surprising - Washington has now won in Indiana twice in this series but not at all at home. Their home record through 10 playoff games is an uninspiring 1-3, compared to a 5-1 mark on the road. And this, after the Wizards were the rare team to perform as well on the road as at home during the season, posting identical 22-19 marks.

The Wiz either play very well on the road or not very well at home, depending on your purview. In the eyes of Marcin Gortat, who had a monster performance in Game 5, playing back at home is a bad thing:

We can’t get excited. We gotta do the same thing in D.C. it’s not gonna be easy. It sounds crazy, but unfortunately we gonna play at home. And everybody knows how we play at home. So it’s gonna be tough, but we gotta win it.

While Gortat's statistical output in the regular season was more or less the same at home or away, he's averaged 14.7 points and 12.2 rebounds on 54.5 percent shooting on the road in the playoffs to just nine and 7.5 on 37.5 percent at home.
