The Pro Basketball Writers Association revealed on Tuesday that Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luol Deng has been vote the winner of the 2013-14 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship award.

The award, named after the NBA's second commissioner, is given annually "to the player, coach or athletic trainer who shows outstanding service and dedication to the community."

Deng's community work this year included a public service announcement for EnoughProject.org urging peace in the South Sudan, contributions to international causes through The Luol Deng Foundation and local work in the cities of Chicago and Cleveland.

“The breadth and depth of Luol Deng’s community service elevated him from a deep pool of committed candidates,” PBWA President Mary Schmitt Boyer. “But, really, all the candidates and their communities are winners.”

Deng is the first winner from the Cavaliers since Eric Snow won the award in 2004-05; a Chicago Bull has never won the award. Denver's Kenneth Faried took the honor in 2012-13.
