Raptors waive Quentin Richardson

In a move that should surprise nobody, the Raptors have waived Quentin Richardson.

Richardson was sign-and-traded to the Raptors to make salaries match in the Andrea Bargnani trade. Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, any signed-and-traded player has to receive at least a three-year contract. In Richardson's case, if he wasn't waived by Jan. 1, 2014, all three years of his contract became guaranteed.

Instead, the Raptors remain on the hook for his $1.4 million salary for 2013-14 but open up a roster spot. The roster now stands at 14 players.

Interestingly, the 18th overall pick that the Los Angeles Clippers used to select Richardson in the 2000 NBA Draft originally belonged to the Raptors. Over 13 seasons, Richardson has appeared in 783 games and averaged 10.3 points.

At age 33, it's unclear if any team will be interested in his services for the coming year. He played just a single game in 2012-13, shooting one-for-11 in 29 minutes for the New York Knicks.
