Pondexter had returned just prior to the All-Star break but played just four minutes in one game and was shut down for the break. Prior to his injury, he was getting pretty good minutes off the Grizzlies' bench. However, Memphis has since added more bench pieces after the Rudy Gay trade, so they are less reliant on Pondexter.
